EdgyPro "Outdated Version" Popup: How Updates Work on Every Install (and How to Fix It)
"Outdated Version" is the most common EdgyPro popup, and the right fix depends entirely on how you installed EdgyPro. The popup already tailors its steps to your install, but if you closed it, or it keeps coming back, this page explains what it's checking, why it's usually harmless, and the exact fix for the Chrome extension, Tampermonkey, EdgyOne and iPhone/iPad.
In a nutshell
- The popup means the EdgyPro script in your browser is older than the latest release. Features usually still work.
- Chrome extension: it fixes itself; you're only asked to act if it's still behind after 12 hours.
- Tampermonkey: open the script link and press Update.
- EdgyOne: fully quit and reopen the app.
- iPhone/iPad: update in Stay/Focus, then fully close Safari.
What the Popup Is Actually Checking
EdgyPro has two halves. The menu and features are loaded from our servers every time a page opens, so most fixes reach you instantly with no update at all. The small loader script that lives in your browser (the extension, the Tampermonkey userscript, the copy inside EdgyOne or your iOS app) changes less often. When we release a new loader, the menu compares the version it's running against the latest one and shows "Outdated Version" if they differ.
Two things follow from that. First, the popup is informational: in most cases everything keeps working until the update lands. Second, "updating EdgyPro" means updating that loader, which is done differently on each install. The sections below are in the order the popup itself checks.
Chrome Extension
With the EdgyPro extension you should rarely see the popup, and almost never need to act on it:
- The extension refreshes the EdgyPro script on its own every few hours, on browser start, and when you press "Check for updates" in its settings.
- When the menu notices a mismatch, it asks the extension to pull the new script immediately. If that works, the page reloads by itself and no popup appears.
- If the pull can't complete yet, EdgyPro stays quiet for 12 hours to let the background refresh land. Only after that does it show the popup.
If you do see it: open chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode
(top right), press Update (top left), then reload Edgenuity. Still behind? Remove
EdgyPro and add it again from the Chrome Web
Store; your key is tied to your Edgenuity account, so nothing is lost (export your settings
from Customize first if you've customised the theme).
Do not follow Tampermonkey instructions you find elsewhere: installing a
.user.js file on top of the extension gives you two copies and two menus.
Tampermonkey
Tampermonkey checks userscripts for updates about once a day, so a fresh release can take up to 24 hours to arrive on its own. To update now:
- Open api.edgypro.net/edgypro.user.js. Tampermonkey opens its install screen.
- Press Update (or Reinstall). Your settings are kept.
- Refresh the Edgenuity tab.
If that link shows raw code instead of the Tampermonkey screen, Tampermonkey isn't running scripts:
check chrome://extensions for Developer mode and, in Tampermonkey's details,
Allow User Scripts. Both have to be on. If you'd rather never do this again, the
Chrome extension updates itself.
EdgyOne (Windows & Mac)
EdgyOne downloads the latest EdgyPro every time it launches, so the popup normally means the app has been open since before the release. Quit EdgyOne completely (close the launcher window and the Chrome window it opened; on Windows check the system tray, on Mac use Cmd+Q) and open it again. If the popup persists after a full restart, update the EdgyOne app itself from the download page; the installer upgrades in place.
iPhone & iPad (Stay / Focus Script)
iOS is the one place the popup can be stubborn, because Safari may keep running the old copy of a script even after the app updated it. Work down this list and stop when the popup goes away:
- Open Stay or Focus Script and check EdgyPro for updates.
- Close Safari completely: swipe up from the bottom (or double-press Home), then swipe Safari away. Reopen Edgenuity.
- Still old? In the app, delete the EdgyPro script and add it again by link:
https://edgypro.net/download/file. - Last resort: delete and reinstall the Stay or Focus app, then set EdgyPro up again from the mobile tab.
"I Updated and It Still Says Outdated"
- Two copies installed. The extension plus a Tampermonkey script, or two Tampermonkey entries, will keep showing the older one's version. Keep exactly one.
- The tab wasn't reloaded. Updates apply to pages opened after the update. Close the Edgenuity tab and open it fresh rather than pressing back.
- A stale version cookie. The menu reads the running script's version first and only falls back to a saved cookie, so this is rare, but a full reload (Ctrl+Shift+R, or closing Safari on iOS) clears it.
- You're ahead, not behind. Right after a release, Tampermonkey users who clicked Update can briefly be newer than what the server reports. It resolves itself within minutes.
A Different Popup: "Clear Cached Files"
If instead you see a message about clearing cached files, that's the other half: your browser cached an old copy of the menu's shared code after a release. EdgyPro tries to refresh it once on its own; if the popup remains, clear cached images and files for the last hour in your browser settings and reload. It has nothing to do with the loader version above.
Outdated Version FAQ
Will EdgyPro stop working if I ignore the popup?
Usually not. The menu and features load from our servers, so you keep getting fixes. Occasionally a release changes how the loader and menu talk to each other, and then some features won't start until you update, which is why the popup exists.
How do I update the EdgyPro Chrome extension?
You normally don't: it updates itself and the popup is suppressed for 12 hours while that happens. To force it, open chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode, press Update and reload Edgenuity.
Do I lose my key or settings when I update?
No. Your key is tied to your Edgenuity account and settings are kept through an update on the same install. Only switching between installs (Tampermonkey to the extension, for example) needs a Customize → Export / Import.
